Adam -

We should have some definitive word regarding Knox County by the end of the day. I know that the Election Commission Office, where I was earlier today, was abuzz.

Cheers,

Rob

As the old saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day ... and the TSC got this one right. It doesn't negate the bad decision over the years and I'm still voting NO to retaing them ... and voting NO to the appeals court justices too.

I have a question. If the Supreme Court is going to allow term limits for county officials. Then doesnt that mean we could have them for our esteemed members of the state legislature as well????? That place needs them a lot more than the counties do!

We would have to pass it by law. I tried to pass it as part of the ethics debait .It died on party lines.

We can only hope that Knox County commissioners are thrown out after extorting the wheel tax from us which should have been prosecuted under RICO.

Now if Steve Hall can defeat Lord Ragsdale.

Breaking: State Supreme Court Upholds Term Limits

The Tennessee Supreme Court upheld term limits for certain county officials, in a case brought by two Shelby County Commissioners. Under the Supreme Court ruling, plaintiffs in the case, Commissioners Walter Bailey and Julian Bolton, who have served two terms on the Shelby County Board of Commissioners will not be eligible to run in upcoming primary and general elections. The State Supreme Court cited Article I, section I of the State Constitution which provides that the people have an “unalienable and indefeasible right to alter, reform, or abolish the government in such manner as they may think proper.” Indicated that the term limit imposition imposed on County officers in an Shelby County ballot intiative was a valid addition to the County's charter. The case also has implications in Knox County, where term limits have also been applied to County officers - and at least two County Commissioners and the Sheriff may be prohibited from running for another term. You can view the opinion here.

Update: KnoxViews reports that 13 county commissioners and the Sheriff could be kicked off the ballot in Knox County because of this ruling.
