One thing is for certain. If TheRep is re-elected then every incumbent legislator will be using their free postage to mail consituents during the campaign. The real question that the Tom Humphreys failed to ask was who did the Campfield mail? Did he mail a general list of constituents in the district? Or did he only mail registered voters? (TheRep I would really like to know the answer to that question if you would be so kind as to answer)

Clearly there needs to be limits on this. For instance it should only be used while the legislature is in session.

This is yet another attempt by the establishment to try and use a complete non-issue to destroy Stacey Campfield.

I would wager a million dollars that if Drinnen is elected, he will not keep a weblog to keep constituents informed, and like all of the other establishment sorts on the Hill, he will WASTE taxpayer money trying to BUY re-election by selling favors.

I voted no to most of the appeals and supreme court justices.
Holder wrote the majority opinion in Berryhill v. Rhodes ... a horrible decision in which even the minority declared the supreme court had overstepped its bounds.

....Tennessee Republicans hope Bob Corker wins the GOP primary

I'm glad Washington, DC's "Hotline" has it's finger on the pulse of every Tennessee Republican voter...

A more accurate statement might be "the monied Tennessee Republican establishment led by Bill Haslem, et al hopes Bob Corker wins the GOP primary." They've made quite a financial investment in the cause.

I do not agree with Dr. Greer's analysis that if the race is close that it hurts the GOP nominee (Corker). The GOP primary was closer then expected in 2002 and Lamar beat Clement soundly. These races are very similar.

A note to Ed Bryant's campaign....

The best time to peak in the polls is at the end.

Ed was my congress man for 8 years. We have rejected his Globalistic views. I will be glad when the aug 3 is over and all republicans can love each other again.

Mickey who the hell would you vote for if Ed isn't conservative enough?

Posted by: Patrick Hamilton | July 31, 2006 08:18 PM

Patrick, I wished that there was a real conservative running, however, I believe that Van is perhaps a little more conservative than Ed. But since a friend of mine stated that Bob told his group he does not support the UN and questions the TRADE aggreements, then I will have to vote for Bob. At least Bob does not have a Globalistic record like Ed and Van.

Daily Dose

Legislators Use Taxpayer Dollars to Send out Campaign Mailers -- State Reps. Frank Niceley and Stacey Campfield may be in trouble for using their legislative postage accounts to send out campaign mailers, according to today's News-Sentinel. The legislators defended the mailings as legitimate constituent communication, but their primary opponents think otherwise. Although the mailers do not ask for votes, the Campfield piece does feature with the headline: "Rep. Stacey Campfield wants you to know about his legislative efforts to crack down on illegal immigration." Rep. Niceley's piece is more typical of constituent mailers that have been approved in the past - it includes a rather rhetorical survey that constituents can return. Campfield shrugged off his primary opponent, Gary Drinnen's call for him to return the money and said "I will give back the money as soon as Gov. Phil Bredesen gives back the money that was spent on his TV commercials against drunk driving."

Judging Judges -- Tom Humphrey registers a round-up of all the action in the judicial retention election questions, including a vote 'no' campaign by State Sen. David Fowler's 'pro-family'organization on Supreme Court Justice Janice Holder, a Sundquist appointee who is also opposed by Tennessee Right to Life. Among the groups supporting Holder are TeamGOP and the Tennessee Bar Association.

Senate Round-up -- Here's a few articles floating out there about the US Senate race:

Frist's Presidential Run Looks Clear -- Bill Frist was in Iowa over the weekend, culling local support among the GOP faithful in what is sure to be seen as laying the foundation for a Presidential run. Larry Sabato, unfortunately gives him little shot at the nomination: "He has no electricity about him. In the end, people expect some pizzazz in their presidential candidate."

TGW Repudiate EMILY's List -- A group of Tennessee feminists are repudiating EMILY's List, a pro-choice women's rights PAC and their endorsement of Nikki Tinker in the Congressional District 9 primary. Tennessee Guerilla Women have endorsed Steve Cohen for the seat, after Tinker used her EMILY's LIST connections to send out an attack mailer accusing Cohen of being a "quixotic state legislator of questionable effectiveness." The race in the 9th district Democratic primary has heated up with some questionable campaign practices, including push-polling done for candidate Ed Stanton, which attacked Cohen's religion. The Guerilla Women have much more on their blog. Today's Commercial Appeal also has more on the race.
