Adam - I think you missed the biggest story of the day, The Tennessean has called on Bob Corker to pull his false attack ad and admit it's misleading.

Adam,

I fell compelled to bring to your attention that Sonnenschein is a law firm. Van is an attorney and his $250,000 salary is for legal services in his occupation as a lawyer. The only money he recieved from lobbying is the 5,000. Van's clients, by the way, are largely non profits--the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the charity seeking a cure for blindness. I feel that's worth noting.

Why didn't Van just come out and disclose it to begin with? Why did he file two extensions? Nothing on that report that is surprising but the fact he waited till the election was less than a week away is very distrusting. He waited for the last hour while Corker and Bryant released their's.

JB, good catch. I don't read the opinion page as often as I probably should.

Charles, I simply used the same verbage as the Tennessean did. I do think that what you point out is worth noting, however.

Daily Dose for July 27, 2006

Dose Supplement

Here's two late breaking items as an addendum to today's dose:

Corker Adds $420K to Personal Contribution -- Blogging for Bryant had this yesterday and the Tennessean has it today. Bob Corker has added an additional $420,000 of his own money to his Senate campaign. That brings his grand total of personal contributions to $2.16M.

Hilleary Files Income Disclosure -- Van Hilleary filed his detailed income disclosure, which reveals significant income from lobbying. The disclosure lists Federal Mogul Corp. and SMS Holdings Corp. as clients who paid him at least $5,000 for lobbying services in 2005. $250,000 was Hilleary's 2005 salary from Washington lobbying firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. The form also shows the former congressman has made $86,664 from the firm for 2006.
