I don't subscribe to nashvillepost. Does the story indicate any specific elections that may have been tampered with?

It was a County Commission race in Tipton County, but other than that I do not know.

This is from the Nashville Post:

Shirley Ward, president of the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women, has turned herself in to authorities and has been arrested on charges of voter fraud by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, according to department spokesperson Jennifer Johnson.

Ward, a Tipton County resident, has been charged with knowingly voting in the wrong district for a Tipton County Commission race. While Johnson could not say which County Commission seat was affected, she said the winner of the race had won by one vote.

A call to the Tipton County Election Commission confirmed that the August 3 election for Tipton County Commission race, District 2, between John Arnold McIntyre Jr. and Billy Dan Huggins was decided by one vote. McIntyre was the victor in the non-partisan race.

I have never met or spoken to Shirly Ward. And, I do not know of any of the facts of her case.

But, I do remember sitting on the House Floor 4 months ago and hearing State Representative JoAnne Favors (D-Chattanooga) stand up and complain about a bill sponsored by Rep. Paul Stanley (R-Germantown).

Rep. JoAnne Favors stated that she had many people registered to vote at her home that did not live there in order for them to vote for her. As she was saying this from the microphone democrat leaders rushed up to her and pleaded with her to shut up. JoAnne Favors was concerned that Paul Stanley's bill might actually prohibit her from having so many people registered to vote at her home even though they didn't live there. All of these comments are on video from the House Floor in May, 2006.

We have a republican district attorney in Chattanooga. But, not even he has shown any interest in prosecuting JoAnne Favors and her family for voting in the wrong district.

Democrats are vicious. And, the Naifeh controlled Tipton County will absolutely destroy any and all opposition.

I remember it as well.

If the Ward story is true a special election may be needed as she could claim she voted for the looser as well as the winner.

Good. Take no prisoners.

Breaking News for August 25, 2006

Breaking: Shirley Ward Arrested

President of the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women, Shirley Ward, has been arrested on voter fraud charges. Ward, best known as one of the major contributors to the GOP grassroots group TeamGOP, is the mother of TeamGOP founder Jeff Ward. Both Wards are active in politics in Tipton Co.

Update: It appears the race in question was a Tipton County Commission race, although futher details are sketchy at this point. Ward did surrender herself to authorities, which according to the Nashville Post, would be the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in this case.

Update II: John Farmer has more on the weekend coverage that I missed, particularly this Commercial Appeal article and John's own correspondence to the Shelby Co. Sheriff's office.
