Adding to this reality of modern politics has been the nebulous universe of shill blogs that have popped up around each campaign – loosely affiliated websites and web logs purporting to report the news of the primary but really nothing more than quasi-independent mouthpieces for each campaign’s spin...

Quasi-independent huh? I think I'm offended. Personally, I came up with the idea for B4B on my own and no one from the Bryant campaign has ever instructed me on what to write.

I don't know why the City Paper is so threatened by independent bloggers covering the U.S. Senate race on behalf of the candidate they're supporting.

BTW, don't forget to vote for Ed Bryant in the Republican primary tomorrow! Sorry for the "shilling" City Paper...

Papers are all for free speach as long as they are the ones printing it.

Thank goodness for the "shill blogs." Read 'em all. You'll figure things out on your own, even if the mainstream press thinks you're too stupid to do so. The press has done a poor job of covering the Senate race, so poor it ought to be criminal.

Also, what is it about Blogging FOR Bryant, for instance, that the press cannot grasp?

FactCheck.org Hits Corker - Again -- It's rare that FactCheck.org issues two memos against a political campaign, but the non-partisan group issued another memo after they saw Corker's most recent using half of their previous report to criticize Ed Bryant when the majority of the report criticized Corker for making inaccurate claims that Bryant and Hilleary had supported a Congressional pay increase as Congressmen. Now the group criticizes Corker for "falsely implying that he lowered taxes in Chattanooga when he was mayor."

Nashville-based America 21 PAC Under Federal Investigation -- America 21, an evangelical Christian political action group based in Nashville, has been subpoenaed by federal investigators to produce records that may tie them to Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The National Journal, a weekly political paper based in Washington, reported this week that the nonprofit civic lobbying organization was being scrutinized as part of the federal influence-peddling probe into Abramoff's dealings. Abramoff directed the Coushatta Indian tribe in Louisiana to pay the PAC $10,000 in order to help influence gaming legislation. In 2002, the group sent direct mailings in at least 18 federal races but reported no political expenditures.

More on Early Voting -- Tom Humphrey does some more analysis on early voting in today's Knoxville News-Sentinel, courtesy of increase numbers by media market provided by the Corker campaign, although all campaigns dispute the numbers implications, with Hilleary's camp saying activists are going to the polls and Corker's camp saying he is the beneficiary of higher early voting numbers. Here are the results by media market compared to 2002: (1) Tri-Cities: +17% (2) Knoxville: +1% (3) Chattanooga: +7% (4) Nashville: +2% (5) Jackson: +2% (6) Memphis: +14%

City Paper Criticizes 'Shill' Senate Race Blogs -- In an editorial in today's Nashville City Paper, the editor takes aim at all three US Senate candidates and the 'quasi-independent' blogs that back them:

Adding to this reality of modern politics has been the nebulous universe of shill blogs that have popped up around each campaign – loosely affiliated websites and web logs purporting to report the news of the primary but really nothing more than quasi-independent mouthpieces for each campaign’s spin...Missing from this primary has been any kind of public discussion about the real issues facing this country.

If you don't want to read the 'shill' blogs, the campaign spokesmen tout their candidates' experiences with budgets in this article in the News-Sentinel. Meanwhile the Tennessean editorializes against attack ads.

Romney Coming to Frist's Turf -- Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will be the guest speaker at a Williamson County fundraiser. The fundraiser at Embassy Suites in Cool Springs will feature Romney introduced by Senator Bill Frist, also a Presidential contender. The fundraiser benefits the Williamson County GOP.
