Adam--

Shelby County is reporting light turnout. However, my poll in Lakeland had 1 1/2 hour waits mid-morning. Not sure why.

This is a great blog. I can't say enough about how enjoyable this blog is.

I have spoken with Todd Womack with the Corker Campaign, Jennifer Cox with the Hilleary Campaign and Mark Green with the Bryant campaign.

One seemed a bit relieved. One seemed a bit angry. And, one seemed a bit uptight and anxious. Regardless of what you think about the campaigns these three people did a great job for their respective candidates. I wish all three of them well.

I have no inside information. Just wait and see what happens.

Interesting. Thanks Adam. With all the hype on TV and in the news this morning about record turnout, it looks like a lot of folks may have just decided to stay away and avoid long lines in the heat. I guess we'll find out what affect that has on the primary in a few hours.

I've driven past a few polling places and saw light turnout in the Democrat areas, heavier in the Republican, but nothing unusual. I think this will turn out to be just another election in terms of numbers.

BTW, the Justice Department has watchers at Shelby County polling places. I'm about to blog it.

Election Night for August 03, 2006

Election Day: 4 Hours of Voting Left

With approximately four hours of voting left, turnout reports are light throughout the state. Nathan Moore is reporting turnout around Nashville is light. Likewise, in Knoxville Volunteer TV reports "short lines" this morning in Knoxville, with the average voter taking approximately 5 minutes to vote.

So far there have been no major incidents that would effect the race. A polling place in Williamson County - The People's Church - had malfunctioning machines that caused a delay in that precinct opening. That was also the case in one Knox County precinct - West High School and two other voting precincts, where some voters had to leave because they could not wait for the problems to be fixed.

More from Hamilton County - where it looks like a local race there resulted in a fist fight between a candidate and a campaign manager for an opposing campaign. First Chickengate now this. Hamilton County needs a cage match.

Update: Jay Bush reports long lines in Shelby County. I should note the heat is a serious issue there - the local NAACP was offering people the opportunity to wait to vote inside their air conditioned vans and the election commission bought fans and bottled water to hand out.

Also, I'll take this opportunity to plug WKRN's webcast of the 2006 elections, which can be seen here starting at 6:00 Central. Keep them open for commentary from Steve Gill, Liz Garrigan, and Bill Fletcher. Also, stay with Tennessee Politics Blog throughout the night. I'll be posting periodic updates.
