Governor Bredesen Sues Judicial Selection Commission -- State attorney general Paul Summers, at the request of Gov. Phil Bredesen, filed suit Monday against the state Judicial Selection Commission over the panel resubmitting the nomination of J. Houston Gordon. The Governor disputes the panel gave him "a full slate of nominees." Summers also called on the panel to get their own attorney since he was representing the Governor in the case. GOP 'Concerned' About Senate Race -- The Memphis Commercial Appeal quotes Republican National Committeeman John Ryder on the race to replace Bill Frist in the US Senate. Ryder: "I think people are concerned...I think Republicans are beginning to focus on this race and say, 'Gee, we can't take this for granted.'" The Tennessee Republican congressional delegation held a conference call last week with Corker and GOP gubernatorial candidate Jim Bryson, Congressman Zach Wamp admitted that concern over the Senate race was one of the topics discussed in the call.
Lugo Wants to Debate -- Green Party US Senate candidate Chris Lugo wants to be included in at least one of the debates between Harold Ford, Jr. and Bob Corker - the debate hosted by the League of Women Voters in Nashville and broadcast statewide on CBS. Lugo says he contrasts the other two candidates and "we cannot have fair elections if the candidates are excluded."
Sullivan Co. Gets More Voting Machines -- Sullivan Co. will get 38 more voting machines to help with the long lines the county experienced in the August primary. In one of the first acts of the commission since the August election, the body approved buying 10 more voting machines to help the effort.
