Corker Hosts Bush - Round 2 -- President Bush dropped by Memphis to support US Senate candidate Bob Corker with a private reception and fundraiser. The fundraiser raised approximately $1.1M, with a quick trip by Bush because of other scheduling obligations. Ford's campaign said they weren't bothered by the fundraiser because both hosts - FedEx founder Fred Smith and AutoZone founder J.R. 'Pitt' Hyde III have both maxed out contributions to the Ford campaign as well. More from the Tennessean. Also, the Nashville City Paper examines how changes in Bush's popularity for the better may also benefit Corker for the better.
Ford Camp Picks Up Talking Point from Blogger -- Knoxviews blogger R. Neal recently wrote a post questioning Bob Corker's statistics on the decline of Chattanooga's crime rate while Bob Corker was mayor. Now apparently the Ford campaign thought Neal's research was good enough to pick it up as a talking point - see the article in the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Speaking of Blogs -- A.C. at Volunteer Voters has a report from the candidate speeches at the Nashville City Club yesterday. Also, this article from Joe Lance that appears in the Chattanooga Pulse is worth the read.
Has anyone heard about the conservative talk show hosts in Birmingham getting fired this past Monday? Russ and Dee Fine used to come on 101.1 fm. Their signal stretched all the way into southern middle Tennessee. They apparently from what I heard had started getting a little "kooky" as of late. They started talking about Governor Bob Riley being in a secret Masonic Lodge that hates blacks and they had people on accusing President Bush of being behind 9/11. They had also accused hispanics of being roaches. The owners of the station apparently had enough and literally fired them on air Monday morning.
