That is a shot at the people who run the Rochelle campaign they do the same old thing in every campaign they run. Smear, lie, smear, lie, smear and around holloween they do a mail piece of the opponent dressed as an evil halloween character. They lie to make their opponent have to defend and not talk about issues.

I guess Mae got the jump on them. They need new ideas.

Corker / Ford Debate Tonight -- Bob Corker and Harold Ford, Jr. will hold their second debate tonight - this one in Chattanooga. Tickets to the debate are apparently a hot item, as several University of Tennessee - Chattanooga students competed in an essay contest for tickets. The debate tonight could get ugly. Harold Ford, Jr. said: "you know, my family's been involved in politics a long, long time and sometimes, my dad and uncle and all of them would take the gloves off, but I may just have to take the gloves off." The Times-Free Press has a preview.

RNC / NRSC Combine for $2.5M -- The Republican National Committee is taking the unusual step this year to help fund several Senate campaigns directly, including Bob Corker's efforts here in Tennessee. Typically the RNC transfers money to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is typically the only organization that produces TV commercials and other advertisements for the benefit of candidates. This year, however, the national Republicans have formed a "firewall" strategy to prevent Democratic gains. So far the RNC has spent $1M in Tennessee and the NRSC has spent $1.5M.

Bredesen Campaigning for Some Dems -- The Bredesen campaign released a list of candidates that Governor Bredesen will be campaigning for in the State Legislature. The list reads like a who's-who of competitive races across the state with those specifically mentioned including Fred Phillips, Lowe Finney and Bob Rochelle. Bredesen says he will campaign for Phillips even though he fired Phillips earlier in the year for his role in the Tennessee Highway Patrol's hiring scandal. Bredesen will also be campaigning for Schree Pettigrew, Mary Ester Bell, Vince Springer, Joe Pitts and Bob Bibb. Rochelle, Finney and Springer are the Dems best hope of knocking off a Republican in the State Senate - a goal Bredesen says he is hopeful, but not confident he can achieve.

RSLC Airs Ad Critical of Rochelle -- In an unusual move, the Republican State Legislative Committee is airing an ad calling former State Sen. Bob Rochelle the "prince of darkness." The ad shows Rochelle’s head on a gray and black superhero-like suit complete with a black cape and a figure that includes a robust, potbellied stomach. To back up their claims in the ad, the Republican State Legislative Committee references a newspaper column in 1993 that called Rochelle the “Senate’s prince of darkness” for his ability to “use parliamentary tricks to cut off debate or sabotage bills.”
