More Senate Race Stuff -- It was an interesting weekend in politics from what I gather, especially in the Senate race where the big news coming out of the weekend was Harold Ford, Jr. crashing a press conference called by Bob Corker in Memphis. Several of the national blogs have commented on this surprise debate - and both sides claim it helps their man. Here's some more tidbits from today's papers:
Get Your Voting Machines -- Ever wonder what the tired old voting machines are doing these days? Apparently, they are sitting in warehouses or compost piles - or in some cases on loan for things like Homecoming Queen balloting. The old machines were discarded because they don't comply with federal election regulations, but that doesn't mean they don't work. Check out the Tennessean article on the old machines for what they are being used for.
Only 32 Candidates Respond to Open Government Inquiry -- Only 32 of the 180 candidates running for public office this cycle reponded to a survey on the state's sunshine laws sponsored by the non-partisan Tennessee Coalition for Open Government. The questionnaire was only 5-questions long, but apparently wasn't a priority with several campaigns this late in the season.
I don't think people who do these position requests understand just how many people do them. Only "five questions" on one of maybe a hundred such mailings.
