Senate Race Highlights -- More from the ever-popular race to replace Bill Frist:
- Mason-Dixon has a new poll of the race with Corker regaining the lead. The new poll, conducted Oct. 18-20, has Corker with 45 percent and Ford with 43 percent with a MOE of 4 percentage points. The poll indicates the Republican base may be solidifying for Corker after his bitter primary victory over two opponents, as Democrats already had for Ford. Eighty-five percent of respondents who identified themselves as Republicans said they'll vote for Corker - up from 76 percent in the September poll. More from the Times-Free Press and Commercial Appeal
- Rudy Gulliani was in Chattanooga to campaign for Bob Corker. He accused Ford of being soft on terrorism and praised Bob Corker's record of reducing violent crime in Chattanooga.
- Reaction to the "Memphis Meltdown" continues - with pundits split on whether or not it helped Corker or Ford. Some say it brings light to the issue that Ford and Corker only debated twice and are about to have the third and final debate. Others say they would have strongly advised against Ford confronting Corker, however. The RNC has been playing up the showdown.
- The Tennessean examines the Ford campaign's shifting response on the whole issue of that infamous Playboy party.
- SETPAC - a group of South-Eastern business men split the ticket and endorsed Bob Corker for Senate, but backed Governor Bredesen for reelection.
Davis Brings in Hastert -- Dennis Hastert was flanked by Congressman Bill Jenkins and GOP candidate David Davis in an event in the 1st Congressional District. Hastert, who is set to testify soon in the Mark Foley investigation, apparently has not-so many woes in the 1st district, who hasn't elected a Democrat since 1881. At the event for Davis, Hastert predicted that the GOP will hold on to the House. More from the Tri-Cities Times News and Tennessean.
