The Final Push - with Big Names -- Tomorrow, Bob Corker will be traveling across the state with Congressional reps from all the areas of the state. John McCain will even be on the Corker GOTV entourage on the first two stops: Kingsport and Knoxville. McCain previously joined Corker at a Nashville fundraiser, while the Senate's only African-American Barack Obama campaigned for Ford in Memphis. Hearing about the barrage of negative ads, which is the focus of this Kingsport Times piece, Corker told supporters he would look at independent expenditure reform if elected. More on the last minute campaign stomps here and here and here.
Some Final Senate Fundraising Notes -- The Tennessean has a brief note today with the headline: Hollywood favors Ford; businessmen favor Corker. Ford has received donations from several Hollywood luminaries, while Corker has picked up donations from the Walton family (of Wal-Mart fortune) and Lee and Sid Bass, Texas oil barons. In perhaps the most reliable poll, a news story over the weekend revealed Corker held a 50% lead in PAC gifts during the last reporting period. For the period Oct. 1-18, Corker received $316,000 from PACs and party-related committees. Ford took in about half that, according to the candidates' financial reports.
Technology's Benefits in Senate Race -- The Memphis Commercial Appeal has two stories on how technology has aided in the US Senate race. The first one focuses on how both camps have used YouTube, the viral video site successfully to push their campaign commercials, but more importantly, the campaign gaffes caught on tape. In the second one, student supporters of both campaigns say they have used Facebook.com, the college networking site, to leverage student involvement in the campaign.
By the way -
Corker's first stop was this morning in Johnson City, TN at 7:00 a.m. at Sunny's Cafeteria. I was there. There was a fantastic turnout!
