TDOT Projects Spending More Money -- The Tennessean reported over the weekend - and the Commercial Appeal reports today that the Tennessee Department of Transportation says it needs $2 billion more than it plans on taking in over the next 10 years in order to build new roads and expand existing infrastructure. Transportation officials are considering several ideas to increase revenue, including establishing toll roads and using carpooling lanes now reserved for multiple riders during rush hour as high-occupancy toll lanes that could be used by single drivers for a fee.
Number of Registered Lobbyists Increases -- The Tennessean notes that 32 entities registered lobbyists in October that were not registered previously in 2006. Just four new entities registered as lobbyists during the same period last year. The jump in the number of lobbyists is probably due to the increase in fines for failure to register as a lobbyist with the state. The new law brings more undercurrent lobbyists to report what topics they will be lobbying the legislature.
