Daily Dose

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving break ... now back to our regularly scheduled programming ...

Junior to Enter Academia -- Harold Ford, Jr., looking for a new gig off his Senate bid loss, told CNN's Situation Room over the weekend that he plans to spend some of his time in Tennessee in academia. Ford: "I’m going to spend some time over the next year still giving back, still active in my state...I hope to be involved with some of the large academic institutions." I guess that means they'll be calling Junior professor at Memphis, UT or Vanderbilt.

Coping with Minority Status -- The Chattanooga Times Free Press says Tennessee's congressional Republicans may have an uphill battle if they expect to get anything done in the next session of Congress. Congressmaan Zach Wamp says he has already breifed his staff on over promising to constiutents. Wamp: "You don’t want to promise the moon if, at the end of the day, you can’t come through...Now I have to look at every request and think, ‘Can I get this done?’"

Ramsey Won't Offer Williams Spot for Vote -- Republican would-be Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey says he will not offer Mike Williams, the Republican threatening to buck and go independent and vote for the Democrat John Wilder for Lt. Governor, any position in exchange for his vote. Last term, Wilder rewarded Williams for his vote for the long-time Lt. Governor with the number two spot in the State Senate. Williams called that "Wilder's graciousness." Meanwhile, a candidate has already emerged to challenge Williams the next time he is up in 2008, but he will need to spend between now and then convincing Williams' East TN district that bucking the GOP on the speaker vote is a bad thing.
