Dems Complain About GOP Committee Take-Over -- Most Republicans in the State Senate will serve on three committees. Most Democrats will serve on only two. "That's the way the math works," according to the newly minted Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey. That means control of most all committees will rest with the GOP majority. Senate Democratic Leader Jim Kyle said the arrangement is unfair, however - and not how power was shared under former Lt. Gov. John Wilder. Democrats will hold two committee chairmanships under Ramsey compared to five under Wilder. Clemency and the Governor -- Two articles in the Knoxville News-Sentinel explore the subject of Governor Bredesen's light number of clemency requests granted when compared to his predecessors. Bredesen has granted only one clemency since he's been in office. The second article looks at some of the appeals on Bredesen's desk for clemency consideration.

Chattanooga GOP Elects Chair from the Floor -- In what has become an unusual circumstance, the Chattanooga Republican Party elected its next chairman from the floor after the predetermined nominee who was expect to be the new chair was given nominated competition. Connie Weathers, a longtime GOP volunteer got the nod and won the election. The preselected Chairman Col. Brett Hale was then selected as the party's Vice-Chairman. Zach Wamp gave a unity speech after the convention concluded.
