Ford Joins Company He Formerly Governed -- Failed US Senate candidate Harold Ford, Jr. has joined Merrill Lynch as a vice chairman and senior policy advisor, according to the company. The former congressman will have offices in Nashville and New York, according to the news release. Ford, who previously served on the Congressional governing board for Merrill Lynch received significant campaign contributions from Merrill Lynch executives during his campaign against Sen. Bob Corker.

State Rep. Asks For Death Row Pardon -- In a rare move, State Rep. Mike Turner has asked Governor Phil Bredesen to pardon a death row inmate. Turner asked Bredesen to pardon Paul House who in 1986 was convicted of murdering Carolyn Muncey. The case of House is an odd one - and U.S. Supreme Court last June said likely would have been acquitted had exonerating DNA evidence been presented to a jury. More from the City Paper.

Duncan Still Against the War -- Knoxville Congressman Jimmy Duncan again voiced his opposition to the war by joining Democrats in a resolution to criticize President Bush's plan for a troop surge Iraq. Duncan, you'll remember was one of the very few Republicans to vote against the authorization of the war in the first place. Duncan is Tennessee's only GOP Congressman to sign on to the resolution - other Republican Congressman including Marsha Blackburn and Zach Wamp defended the policy, while the later described the war as "a religious conflict with Islamic jihadists."
