Breaking: State Sen. Mike Williams Switches Affiliation

State Sen. Mike Williams has shed his Republican Party affiliation according to AP reports in favor of becoming the Senate's only Independent. William's move leaves the Senate with a 16-16 split between Republicans and Democrast, but will not change the outcome of the Lt. Governor's race, where Ron Ramsey will retain the spot for his two year term.

Lt. Gov. Ramsey comments: "Just 64 days ago, Sen. Williams voted for me for Speaker of the Senate and Lieutenant Governor. I appreciated his support and the Senate Republican Caucus wanted him to be a valued and contributing member. Unfortunately, Sen. Williams did not feel comfortable with conservative Republican leadership. Apparently his ideology no longer fits within the Republican philosophy. I wish him the best."
