How can the FBI pay a crook, with our hard earned money, to lie and be crooked, when we are suppose to prosecute people for that very same reason? There should be someway they can be prosecuted for that. THAT IS WRONG.

John Ford's Waltz Trail Starts Today
John Ford's Waltz Trail Starts Today -- Former State Sen. John Ford's trial for his role in the FBI's Tennessee Waltz investigation starts today in Memphis. One commentator on the Waltz case summed up the chief role Ford played in the investigation: "John Ford was the main target of the Tennessee Waltz. I think the rest of the defendants got drawn in so that it wouldn't look like a John Ford vendetta." The trail is expected to last a month and four alternate jurors will be selected instead of the typical two. Ford is accused of taking over $55,000 from undercover FBI agents in exchange for favorable legislation. More here - and here, where two Democrat activists argue that TN Waltz was tied to the politics of the Bush administration investigating Democrats.
$22M on Campaigns in 06 -- Candidates for elected positions in TN spent $22 million on campaigns, including $5.2 million from political action committees and more than $1 million from their own pockets, according to the News-Sentinel. Gov. Phil Bredesen led the way with $6,747,015, which is far less than the $11 million spent during his 2002 campaign, but far more than opponent Jim Bryson's $1,570,259. The total includes $7.4 million on 99 House races and $5.4 million on 17 Senate seats.
Toll Roads Double Taxation, but Still Planned -- State Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely called toll roads "double taxation" with a state gas tax that is expected to rise over the next few years, but said the state is still exploring them as a revenue option. Three toll roads are being explored: the Knoxville Regional Parkway, also called the Orange Route; a bridge over the Cumberland River to provide access to Nashville from Hendersonville; and a road that would diverge from Interstate 40 near Strawberry Plains and lead to Gatlinburg.
Wharton Behind in CA Poll -- The Commercial Appeal conducted a poll on the Memphis mayor's race and has the results. We're still six months out from the election, but the poll shows current Mayor Willie Herenton being defeated by City Councilwoman Carol Chumney. Chumney - 32%, Herenton - 20%, followed by former Gas and Water Cheif Herman Morris - 16% and former Commissioner John Willingham - 3%. If Shelby Co. Mayor A.C. Wharton jumps into the race, he becomes the frontrunner with 31%, with tail offs from Chumney and Herenton. The poll was conducted by Ethridge & Associates.
I think the FBI probably would love to get Harold Sr before this is all over with. As far as John goes, the conservative in me hopes John gets convicted. But the mischievous side of me hopes he walks. Just because I would love to see his reaction walking out of the courtroom a free man. He'll probably run against Congressman Cohen next year if that does happen plus people like that TV reporter Andy Wise better not be in his way if he does walk.
