Adam you forgot to mention news from Jackson, Tn where they elected a new City Mayor yesterday for the first time since 1989. Madison County Mayor Jerry Gist(D) won with over 66% of the vote. He takes office on July 1. Will the GOP controlled Madison County Commission name Don McCleary as the new County Mayor when Gist resigns?

That's a good catch - and definitely an interesting story.

That is what I have heard.

Ive heard that as well Joshua. If that does happen, Don will be tough to beat next year in the special election because of the continuing GOP trend in Madison. The GOP will control every county office except the Sheriff in Madison County Government once the new GOP County Mayor takes over. Democrats over there though will scream bloody murder if this does happen. Those poor souls would call his house last year and literally cuss him out for switching. They also would show up at debates and blame him for the Iraq War. They just havent been able to forgive him. But the good news for those of you throughout the state that would like to see Don get that job is that the GOP has a two thirds majority on the 25 member county commission...so you dont have to worry about a wishy washy Mike Williams type caving into the democrats. The GOP leaders over there are pretty partisan and they love sticking it to the democrats.

Cooper to Host Obama Fundraiser

Cooper to Host Obama Fundraiser -- Congressman Jim Cooper will be the first politican to sign on board with the Barack Obama campaign - and bring in Sen. Obama for a Nashville fundraiser. Co-chairs for the event include prominent Nashville attorney Charles Robert Bone and former Tennessee Democratic Party director Bob Tuke. Former state Commissioner for the Department of Commerce and Insurance Paula Flowers will co-host.

Thompson Has K-Street Support -- From today's Roll Call - it appears Thompson has some old friends on K-Street, who are reluctant to jump onto other campaigns, but face no real encouragement Fred Thompson to form a traditional national political or fundraising apparatus. Tim Locke, a lobbyist at the Smith-Free Group and former aide to ex-Sen. Howard Baker leads the list which includes A.B. Culvahouse, who chairs O’Melveny & Myers, a sprawling international law firm; Ken Rietz, a Republican strategist and top public relations executive; Mike Madigan, a partner with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld; and Tom Daffron, chief operating officer of the Jefferson Consulting Group, a local lobbying outfit.

Local Round-up -- Here's some local governmental issues around the state:

Workman Executed -- Tennessee performed its first lethal injection since Gov. Bredesen had the state Department of Corrections revise the state's lethal injection formula. Phillip Workman was executed early this morning after both futher appeals were denied and Gov. Bredesen denied a clemency request.
