Dean New Mayor of Nashville

Dean New Mayor of Nashville -- Former Metro Law Director and relative political newcomer Karl Dean is the new Mayor of Nashville - Davidson County. Dean will succeed former boss Bill Purcell. Dean's campaign focused on education and his new face drew many voters to his side for what was previously thought to be an election already in the bag of former Congressman Bob Clement, who certainly had higher name identification before the race started. A total 99,423 votes were cast for mayor yesterday, including write-ins, compared to the 100,191 votes cast in the August General Election. More here.

Briley Video Released -- The cruiser video of the arrest of State Rep. Rob Briley apparently shows the Judiciary Comm. Chairman clearly failing the field sobriety test, complaining about the handcuffs, calling the officers Nazis and asking to be shot. The Nashville City Paper has the details of the video, which shows Briley in a whirlwind of emotions - even visibly crying at times and then mocking the officers. Nashville CBS affiliate WTVF has the video.

City Councilman Leamon Pierce called for the resignation, but Rutherford quickly responded that she was "duly elected" and planed to continue to serve on the Council until they kicked her off.
