CoverKids Signs Up 16,000 -- Gov. Bredesen's free children's insurance program CoverKids has signed up 16,000 Tennessee children. CoverKids for uninsured children launched March 26 but took awhile for enrollment to build. Only 1,250 children were signed up during the first two months, but the program now covers 16,027 children, said Dean Flener, spokesman for Cover Tennessee, the state's program for the uninsured. Bredesen: "I wish many more parents would come forward and get their kids signed up … because it's a free health care program." CoverKids is TN's version of the much-talked about S-Chip program. Thompson has fallen in polls in both of those states - behind Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney in Iowa and behind Rudy Giuliani in South Carolina.

It was purchased by commissioners from SIRE Technologies for $247,400. The packets of information will be easily accessed on the county's Web site and also allow for live streaming video of commission proceedings.
