Politico: Phil as VP?

Politico: Phil as VP? -- The Politico's Roger Simon floats the name of Phil Bredesen as a potential VP candidate for Barack Obama under the following banner: "Bredesen is known for cutting spending when he has to, which is why some Republicans like him even more than some Democrats do. He also started a successful health care company, which gives him both business credentials and knowledge about an issue that is sure to be important in the general election."

Briley Indicted -- State Rep. Rob Briley has been indicted on a felony evading arrest charge, DUI and other misdemeanor allegations stemming from a high speed chase through Wilson County in September. Briley was also indicted for the misdemeanor charges of vandalism, DUI as well as various traffic violations - for kicking out a police car window after he was arrested. Discussions continue, however, between Briley’s attorneys and the state on suspending the prosecution of the charges.

TAG Sticks it To Gov -- The small city of Oak Hill has been heating up over construction of a huge underground entertainment facility at the Governor's Mansion, but so far has been limited to a NIMBY dispute. That was until car dealership owner Lee Beaman, invested $30,000 to $40,000 in seed money to start Tennesseans for Accountability in Government (TAG), a 501(c)4 nonprofit fighting the construction on the charge that it is a waste of taxpayer money. State Architect Mike Fitts said the state would spend $3.86 million in connection with the Conservation Hall in order to widen the driveway, build a roundabout to drop off guests, make the complex ADA compliant and do landscaping, but would not speculate on how much projects that were not underground might cost. Tuesday, TAG tried to compare the size of Conservation Hall and its 14,024 square feet to that of specific entertainment spaces, saying it was about four times the size of the East Room in the White House. Chatt City Council Considering Stadium Reimbursement -- The Chattanooga City Council will consider whether or not to approve an allocation of $60,000 to help offset operating losses for Finley Stadium, the stadium of the Chattanooga Lookouts baseball team. Council Chairman Dan Page said Hamilton County and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga each would be responsible for equal $60,000 contributions to fund the utlities for the stadium, just in time for Friday's NCAA Football Championship Subdivision finals between Appalachian State University and Delaware. Management of the stadium says they thought other entities were paying the electrical bills, not the city.
