Strader Out
Strader Out -- State Rep. Parkey Strader says he will not seek reelection in 2008. Strader, who was also as chief deputy in the Knox Co. property assessor's office, says recent political infighting in that county has him rejudging his priorities. Strader resigned his job in the assessor's office after he and his boss got into a fight over supporting Knox Co. Commission candidate Phil Ballard to replace current assessor John Whitehead. Strader also only recently recovered from a prolonged fight with cancer. Strader: "You will not see Parkey on the ballot again."
Bredesen Wants Regional Cooperation on Water -- Gov. Phil Bredesen says the lack of regional cooperation could be to blame for certain county's water supply shortage. Bredesen said he was amazed that neighboring Williamson County appeared to have annual water supply problems but declined to partner with Nashville, which had ample water from the Cumberland River, citing his own lack of movement toward regional cooperation as Mayor of Nashville. Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke: "One of the obvious solutions is to get as many of these counties as we can get to work together to get to the Cumberland River and the Tennessee River." Longtime Kingsport Public Servant Retires -- Longtime Kingsport public servant Dave Lite is retiring from city government in the East TN town. Lite has worked 25 years for the city in various positions ranging from fleet manager to assistant to the city manager. Light announced his retirement back in October and on Friday served his last day with the city of Kingsport.
More on Rutherford-Replacement Campaign -- Blogger Joe Lance has an update on the campaigning for the Chattanooga City Council seat previously occupied by Marti Rutherford. The special election will be held on February 5, 2008, and early voting will begin on January 16. Carol Berz, Julie Chamberlain and Rick Igou appear to be the front-runners.
