Bredesen Increasing National Profile

Bredesen Increasing National Profile -- TN Gov. Phil Bredesen has been doing a full-court press to increase his national profile by suggesting a superdelegate primary. Over the past few days, Bredesen has made stops on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NPR, FOX, the BBC, continuing with an in interview with CNN's Lou Dobbs last night. Politico's Jonathan Martin speculates that Bredesen's increased profile could mean bigger things for the Governor, who's term is wrapping up. In most of his events, Bredesen has talked down Beltway insiders who oppose the superdelegate primary idea, and set himself up as a powerbroker. Martin: "He said he's not interested in the vice presidency, but the would-be broker role he's embraced has already set off speculation about what may be next after 2010, or before." More here.

Cohen Helps John Ford -- Congressman Steve Cohen reportedly helped convicted former State Sen. John Ford get a relocation in his federal prision assignment. Cohen said his office requested the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to change Ford’s incarceration from a minimum-security federal-prison camp in Texas to a similar facility in central Louisiana. Cohen told the newspaper former congressman Harold Ford Sr. told his brother to seek Cohen’s assistance as a constituent.

Nooga Candidates -- The Chattanoogan has a list of races shapping up in Hamilton Co., including a couple of folks picking up papers to challenge for State Rep. Vince Dean. It was previously assumed by many that Dean would win the county party's nomination for Sheriff, thus opening up his seat. However, last night the Hamilton Co. GOP gave the banner to former Chief Deputy Sheriff Jim Hammond, instead. He won a runoff over Dean 148-134 at a party convention to select the nominee.

Faulk Makes it Official -- GOP candidate Mike Faulk will make his run official tonight at the Hawkins Co. Lincoln Day dinner. Faulk has already had phenomenal success in raising money across the state for his bid against State Sen. Mike Williams in far East TN. The sprawling 4th State Sen. district includes Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, and Union counties.
