Frist to Head Gates Foundation?

Frist to Head Gates Foundation? -- According to the Nashville City Paper, former TN Sen. Bill First may be in talks with former Microsoft head Bill Gates to head his multimillion dollar charitable foundation - the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Frist spokesperson Matt Lehigh refused to comment on the matter, but the City Paper reports confirm Frist is having on-going discussions with Gates. Frist's tie-in is likely related to his push for millions of dollars in AIDS relief to Africa.

Lottery Money Deal on the Way -- Officials say they are close to a deal on spending the surplus lottery money. Looks like Republicans in the State House have come around the to the Democrats position of lowering the state GPA requirements to retain the lottery scholarship. House Minority Leader Jason Mumpower: "I think an overwhelming number of my members do realize that once a student does get in college that it's a whole new ball game, and perhaps they need the ability to have a little more leeway." UT Participates in Rock the Vote -- The Baker Center at the University of Tennessee is helping organize an event where MTV's Rock the Vote will come on to the Knoxville campus. The event which will allow students to register to vote will also include a microphone set up for students to "Speak Out" during class changes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Public lectures on politics are also scheduled.

Watson: Desalination for Georgia -- State Rep. Eric Watson signed onto a resolution condeming Georgia for its attempt to move the state border a mile to the north to capture some of the water supply currently in Tennessee. Watson says Georgia should look to the Atlantic Ocean for its water supply shortage. Watson: "Other states and countries rely on desalinization to meet their water needs and Georgia should entertain this idea as well."
