Stuart to Challenge Favors -- A Democratic Primary is set up in Chattanooga where high-profile former Hamilton Co. Dem Party Chair Stuart James has decided to run against sitting State Rep. JoAnne Favors. James cites encouragement to run from both black and white voters, including some of Favors top supporters. James: "Unfortunately, we live in a time where many feel their elected officials are out of touch with the concerns, ideals, and values of their communities. Many believe that politicians are more concerned with themselves than they are with the people who elect them to public office." More here.
Camper Replaces Rowe -- The Shelby Co. Commission has selected Karen D. Camper, a teacher, retired military officer and political newcomer to serve as the State Representative in the 87th district. Camper replaces State Rep. Gary Rowe, who died of colon cancer in February. She defeated two opponents.
DeFreese Wants AG Opinion on Open Records Laws -- Knox Co. Commissioner Victoria DeFreese said Monday she wants an opinion from the state attorney general on whether constituent communications are public record under Tennessee law. Knox Co. Mayor Mike Ragsdale wants to review constituent communication DeFreese received critical of the Knox Co. budget audit, but DeFreese says constituent communication should not be covered under the Open Records Laws.
